I have always been inspired by the idea of 'Home'. Perpetually an outsider since leaving the motherland South Korea in 2006, I'm fascinated by the concept of fitting in whether it's natural or forced upon.
My current body of work has a split approach between realism and magical realism which is heavily influenced by light and colors fueled by melancholy. The couple of paintings made for 'Exodus', my work illustrates the feelings of longing and anguish that ask the viewers to have a closer look into their own desires and fears. Using the familiar domestic animal such as cats positioned as an authority and voyeurs into our own life, their stoic nature can bring us all some sense of letting it be.
