Born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1977. Currently lives and works in Tokyo.
After graduating from Musashino Art University Junior College of Art and Design in 1998, She was a graphic designer for several years then started her career as an artist in 2002, and moved to the UK in 2007. The following year, she received a master's degree with distinction from the Art Practice Course of the Graduate School of Arts and Social Sciences at Northumbria University in the UK. She participates in exhibitions and art fairs in Asia, Europe and the U.S., and also works in residency programs.
Since her early days, her motif has been a mysterious creature that cannot be identified as either a dog or a rabbit. Maiko Kobayashi's “creature” would be said to express the conflicts, anxieties, hopes, and strength of people living in the changing times and society.
